New 45-inch and 27-inch gaming monitors are on the way from LG as part of its UltraGear OLED range. Just to make things even better, they’re among the first OLED displays to support super smooth 240Hz refresh rates.
Such new technology doesn’t come cheap, however. The 45-inch (45GR95QE) model comes with a $2,999 price tag locally, while the 27-inch (27GR95QE) version comes in at $1,799. To put these figures into perspective, you can grab a 65-inch C2 OLED TV for roughly the same price at JB Hi-Fi. Of course, the 240Hz OLED technology is extremely new, hence the premium pricing. Another factor to consider is that neither display is 4K: the 27-inch is QHD 2560 x 1440, and the 45-inch is WQHD 3440 x 1440. Again, you’re paying for the OLED innovation here, not maximum resolution.
Both new UltraGear OLED monitors support variable refresh rates (VRR), a quick 0.03ms response time, and cover 98.5% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut for vibrant visuals. The 45-inch model comes in an 800R curved format – the company’s first curved OLED gaming monitor – with the smaller monitor a standard flat display.
HDR10 is supported across both displays, backed by 1,000 nits of brightness and 10-bit colour depth to provide plenty of contrast for detailed game environments. If you opt for the 45-inch UltraGear OLED monitor, you can use its various window settings to have either picture-by-picture or picture-in-picture to multitask or have something else on while you game.

Availability
Pre-orders for both monitors are live now until 31 March 2023 before a wider release in April. Although pricey, the displays look spectacular on paper, and early reviews are positive. Like TVs, it will only be a matter of time before OLED tech becomes more common and affordable in monitors.
Earlier in the year, LG announced a ridiculously smooth 360Hz gaming monitor, aimed at esports competitors. Meanwhile, competitors like Samsung also have 240Hz OLED gaming monitors in the works, with the wide 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 announced at CES 2023. Expect to see more OLED display competition in the months to come.
