Optus has a new affordable 5G phone in stores, the Nubia Focus 5G, and it wields a massive camera.
Made by ZTE, the same company behind Telstra’s latest 5G handset, the Nubia Focus comes with a striking rear camera that spans almost the entire width of the device. Labelled the “NeoVision” camera, it uses a whopping 108MP sensor. While megapixels are only one measure of camera quality, it does mean you’d be able to zoom in and crop photos without too much distortion.
On the front, the phone brandishes a 6.6-inch 120Hz display. It’s smooth, but the trade-off comes in the form of a 720p resolution (1612 x 720, to be precise). It’s similar in many ways to its Telstra counterpart; a 5,000mAh battery capacity, 4GB of physical RAM, and NFC wireless technology.
Priced slightly higher than Telstra’s offering, the Nubia Focus 5G distinguishes itself through its higher virtual memory capacity. While the Telstra T-Elite 5G supports 8GB total RAM via unused storage, the Nubia goes up to 14GB, helping run things a bit faster. It also comes with 256GB of storage, double that of Telstra’s phone.
Running on an adapted version of Android 14 the Nubia even has a feature similar to recent iPhones. Live Island Interactive provides a quick glimpse at notifications and timers via the small cutout surrounding the front-facing camera.
Nubia Focus 5G release date and price
Available exclusively through Optus, the new phone costs $248.40 outright. It’s also available on 12, 24 or 36-month plans if you want to pay it off over time with your phone bill. This way, you can pick one up for as little as $1 per month.
As an introductory offer, anyone buying the phone also gets a set of BlueAnt Pump Air Lite2 Earbuds valued at $90.
It’s $70 more than the Telstra T-Elite, with the extra spend getting you slightly more power, storage, and a big camera that’s hard to miss.
We’re testing both phones and will have full reviews and comparisons live soon.
