Can you smell what LG’s cooking? That’s probably because the home appliance giant is branching out into a range of cooking appliances, with no less than 14 products arriving in the Australian market as part of the LG kitchen collection.
Fresh off revealing its new cleaning appliances prior to IFA 2024, LG has expanded its local appliance range by a decent factor. The range includes eight ovens, four induction cooktops, and two rangehoods, adding to the brand’s existing kitchen gear of fridges and dishwashers.
In a similar vein to Samsung’s big smart-connected kitchen appliances, the LG kitchen collection leans heavily on the ThinQ platform. Via an app, you can remotely control and monitor each appliance from afar. For example, you can preheat the oven or adjust temperature without needing to be in the same room. Or you can knock on the oven glass to check cooking progress without opening the door and losing temperature.
Another feature LG highlighted was “My Recipe”. Contained within the LG ThinQ app, it lets you list ingredients and pre-program various cooking cycles, aimed at reducing the mental load of kitchen prep. It even pairs with the brand’s rangehoods, activating in sync with an LG cooktop.
Smart connectivity is one thing, but post-cooking cleanup is a whole different issue. It seems that LG has considered this too. Its LG Series 9 InstaView Full Steam Ovens (try saying that three times fast) help clean tricky messes via a 10-minute steam cleaning cycle.
Then there’s also the materials on the inside of the ovens. LG’s new ovens include a “Blue EasyClean hydrophilic enamel” that also makes it easier to clean. If you’re like me and had to look up the definition of “hydrophilic”, it basically means “water-friendly”, which sounds good for cleaning.
