Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo tackles laundry efficiency

Made to use less energy when washing and drying your clothes, the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo is an all-in-one laundry machine aimed at reducing your energy bill.

Announced ahead of IFA 2024, the combo appliance doubles as an 18.5kg smart washer and a 10kg heat pump dryer. So, instead of needing two separate appliances, you can have just one and save space. It also saves the trouble of transferring clothes – or a king-size quilt – between appliances.

Equipped with a seven-inch touchscreen display and SmartThings connectivity, the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo pairs with the brand’s existing smart appliance range. It means you can control settings, including energy-saving features, via a smartphone app.

Samsung claims its washer and dryer uses less energy thanks to AI integration, backed up by the appliance’s 10-star dryer energy efficiency rating. Compared to a standard cycle, the AI Opti Wash and Dry cycle reportedly uses up to 60% less energy when washing, and 20% less when drying. The SmartThings app also provides real-time energy consumption data to indicate what impact it might have on your electricity bill.

Heat pump dryers tend to be more energy efficient, too, which helps. If you are in a hurry though, you can wash and dry small 3kg loads in as little as 98 minutes using the Super Speed Cycle.

Efficiency also extends to the water and detergent dosage. Samsung’s AI Opti Wash and Dry cycle automatically detects the weight and fabrics included in a load to then adjust the water, detergent, and washing time accordingly. There are a few washing machines that do this now, taking the guesswork out of doing the laundry.

Pre-orders are live now in Australia, starting at $5,499 for the upcoming laundry appliance. It’s set to launch locally on 12 September, with an online listing available on Samsung’s website.
