Ultimate guide to the best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

Ultimate guide to the best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

Whether you got a Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day or you’re window shopping until the new Metroid comes out, now is a great time to check out all the accessories available for Nintendo Switch 2 in Australia.

There are so many accessories. A huge range of cases, headsets, cables, chargers, controllers and sundries that just walking into the accessories aisle of your local JB Hi-Fi can be a bit overwhelming.

I’ve spent the last month testing the best Switch 2 accessories currently available in Australia. Here’s the best of what’s out there for a variety of situations.

Best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

Cases

Belkin Gaming Charging Case – $99.95

This is really more of a case that holds a removable battery as well as a console, but it’s also been my go-to case for longer journeys recently because it’s such a useful size, and the battery is so handy to have. There is enough room to hold the Joy-Con wrist straps and mouse attachments, as well as a bunch of games. A hidden AirTag compartment also lets you track your Switch 2 should it leave your sight.

The 10K power bank is enough to charge the console 1.5 times. That’s ideal for longer commutes and domestic flights.

It’s really a case that thinks of everything. It is a little heavier than cases that don’t have a power bank, but it feels sturdy and good quality.

There’s also a slimmer version that doesn’t have the power bank, which is also quite nice.

R.D.S. Industries Game Traveller Deluxe Crossbody Bag – $49

I am obsessed with this bag. It’s light, compact and reminds me of the case I used to carry around my Game Boy Pocket as a kid.

Its compact size is great for when you need to pack light, although you need to remove the Joy-Con to fit the Switch 2 in. It won’t hold a lot of other accessories, but it does have a Joy-Con pouch and space for some game cards (and includes cases for those cards), and it’ll also carry an AC adapter.

There is also another version that fits the console horizontally with a bit more storage space.

R.D.S. Industries Game Traveller Deluxe System Case – $60

This is the Switch 2 case you get when you want to carry everything with you. For example, if you’re going to a friend’s place to play on their TV, or you’re a child of divorce travelling between parents.

There are spots for each component of the console, the dock, associated cables, extra Joy-Cons, and a Pro Controller. It’s durable, well-padded, and looks like it’ll put up with years of abuse.

3rd Earth PVC Brown Leather Protection Case – $22

This is just a very simple case; it holds the console with the Joy-Con attached, a few very small accessories and some games.

What I like about it is that it just feels so soft and nice. It is a bit annoying that the elastic on the inside accessories pocket is a bit loose. But it feels so premium and nice that I forget all that irritation when I pat it. That’s worth dealing with elastic that’s marginally looser than normal.

Mario Kart World Game Traveller Deluxe Switch 2 Case – $39.95

This case is fantastic for kids. It’s solid, it’ll take a beating, and it’s got brightly coloured Mario Kart World characters on it. It holds a decent amount, and it’s convertible, so it’ll hold a Switch OLED now, and then you can remove the inserts later to fit the Switch 2 when you upgrade.

Powerwave Premium Carry Case – $29.95

I love this case so much. It’s available in muted colours or bright ones, it holds 30 game cards, it’s the most solid small case on this list, and it’s made by an Australian company. Even better, the accessories section zips up, instead of relying on elastic, keeping small items more secure.

Headsets

SteelSeries Arctis Nova Gamebuds – $359

I’ve tried a bunch of true wireless gaming headsets, and this is the first one that nailed it. These headphones are versatile for everyday music and podcasts, and then you just use the USB-C dongle to plug into your Switch 2 when it’s time to play.

SteelSeries Artis Nova Pro Wireless – $735

These are the Rolls-Royce of gaming headsets. Yes, they are ridiculously expensive, but they’re also ridiculously good, and the microphone retracts enough that you could easily just use them as your everyday headset. The noise cancelling is excellent, the sound quality is sharp, and I swear the clarity of the spatial audio has given me an edge when gaming.

Sure, they cost almost the same as a Switch 2, but treat yo self.

HyperX Cloud III Wireless Gaming Headset – $279

The thing that sticks out most about this headset is how comfortable it feels. It’s just so soft I could easily wear it for hours with no issues. Even better, it has an absolutely wild 120-hour battery life. Yes, the $280 market for gaming headsets is saturated, but with those two outstanding features, the HyperX Cloud III Wireless really stands out from the crowd.

Controllers

We all know that the official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is excellent. But, if you wanted to get fancy, specific, weird, or colourful about it, there are plenty of options out there. My favourites are:

CRKD Neo S Fortnite Festival Edition – US$59.99

There is so much to love about this controller. Sure, the Neo S isn’t super ergonomic for traditional gaming (though it is great for retro gaming), but it has Hall effect sensors (for no stick drift), it’s super portable and, most importantly, this edition comes with frets.

Remember the old DS Guitar Hero controller? This is exactly like that, and it’s great for Fortnite Festival. It’s so easy to throw in your bag that I now take it whenever I have to go interstate, or to stay somewhere, because it syncs with my Switch 2 and my phone. Plus, it’s pretty.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller – $99

This controller is great if you just want one versatile controller to go between mobile, PC and Switch 2, with a charging dock. The whole setup looks really sleek, the back paddles are easy to configure, and having the option to use either the 2.4GHz wireless dongle (USB-C) or Bluetooth gives you a lot of options for where to play.

Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless Controller – $99

Okay, so this controller is missing a few key ingredients, like Hall effect sensors, a C button, and rumble (it has no rumble at all). But what it does have are back buttons and a glow-in-the-dark invincible Mario design that I am obsessed with.

Yes, there are technically better controllers out there, but if you don’t like rumble, or you just want a really cool looking controller with a whopping 40 hours of battery life, this is the way to go.

Screen protectors

There are so many screen protectors out there. These are the ones I’ve tried and had a good experience with. But, obviously, given I’ve had to test all of them and the console hasn’t even been out for two full months yet, I can’t speak to their longevity:

3rd Earth Nintendo Switch 2 Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector 2-pack – $12.95

I appreciate that this acknowledges you might screw up the installation of the first one. It’s like it knows me.

Belkin Tempered Glass Blue Light Filter Screen Protector – $29.95

This screen protector filters blue light a bit, but not so much that it radically distorts what’s on the screen.

Belkin Tempered Glass Anti-Reflective Screen Protector – $29.95

This screen protector reduces reflections a bit, without obscuring what’s on the screen. I was really impressed with how well it worked. Plus, the applicator was really handy.

Power banks

If you’re taking this gaming show on the road, you’ll need some portable power. Here are two power banks I’m loving at the moment:

Belkin Gaming Power Bank 20K with Integrated Cable – $99.95

This power bank will charge the Switch 2 up to three times. You can’t lose the cable because it’s built-in, plus it looks sleek and pretty. What more could you want?

Anker Prime Power Bank 27,650mAh – $299.95

This is a power bank that means business. It’s got the maximum number of milliamps allowed on a plane. It can simultaneously charge your phone, laptop and Switch 2 at full speed. It has a screen that tells you how quickly it’s charging each device, how much power is left, and how long things will take to charge.

This is the power bank to end all power banks. I’ve taken it around the world with me several times, and I love this chunky beast so much. It charges so much so quickly. That price tag is ridiculous, but it’s shockingly worth it.

Extra storage

For the digital hoarders or slow inter-netted users among us, additional storage is essential. Though it’s generally better to wait to buy storage until you need it, as prices tend to drop on new formats as time goes on.

SanDisk microSD Express Card – from $79

This comes in both Switch 2 and regular flavours; both will work in the Switch 2, but oddly enough, the branded one is sold at lower prices than the unbranded one.

At the moment, only the 256GB is available in Australia, and only the SanDisk-branded one (there is a Samsung version coming later this year). Just make sure you’re getting the microSD Express card for Switch 2, as the very similar-looking cards for the original Switch aren’t compatible.

Cables

Switch 2 Cables

Technically, the Switch 2 comes with all the cables you strictly need. However, there’s a good chance your living room will need longer or different cables. Here are the ones that came in handy for me:

Belkin Gaming Braided USB-C Cable 60W for Switch 2 – $29.95

Having a longer USB-C cable has really come in clutch for the Switch 2 camera, as well as charging. This braided cable feels nice, looks sleek, and does exactly what I need it to do.

Belkin Cat6 Networking Cable 3M – $15

If you have a router that changes channels dynamically (like the Amazon Eero), there’s a good chance your Switch 2 is only connecting to the 2.4GHz band of your network, slowing your internet to a trickle. I plugged my console directly into my router, and now life is good again.

Powerwave 2M USB-C LED Charging Cable – $24

I am obsessed with this cable, more than I ever thought I would be with a USB cable. It has the aesthetic of a nice guitar lead, the ends light up, and the hinge allows the cable to bend left or right without breaking it and ruining everything. Plus, it comes with a USB-C to USB-A dongle. This cable slaps.

Everything else

This is the stuff you might need, but doesn’t fall under any particular category.

R.D.S. Industries Game Traveller Game Card Case – coming soon

If you have a whole bunch of came cartridges and not a lot of space, this is a case that can hold those cartridges. It also looks adorable, which is nice.

SteelSeries KontrolFreek Performance Thumb Grips – $16.99

If you want a little extra competitive edge, then having textured, grippy thumbtacks might help you react a little more precisely and a little faster. Or it might just make the sticks more comfortable and look prettier. Either way, it’s a good time.

SteelSeries KontrolFreek No Slip Thumb Grips – $19.99

If you get sweaty hands that slip on the thumbsticks, this will help.
