Roborock’s mower impressively scales steep hills

In the past, robot lawnmowers were limited by the types of yards they could maintain. Moving up inclines or uneven lawns is a no-no for many robots from the past few years. Roborock’s RockMow Z1 is part of a trend that might make robotic mowers more helpful.

Made for bigger properties, the RockMow Z1 can handle 39-degree inclines, suited to bigger, hilly gardens. I saw the robot motor its way up a demo station at IFA, and was impressed by how easily it climbed a reasonably steep hill. I can’t speak to its lawn-cutting ability, but the robot seems to live up to its hill-climbing aspirations.

Roborock hasn’t specified when its lawnmowers will come to Australia or how much they will cost. Still, it’s encouraging to see robots being made for more than just flat properties.
