Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge reportedly dropped due to low sales

Samsung’s foray into ultra-thin phones might be a short-lived one, with multiple publications reporting that the phone manufacturer has pulled the plug on its planned Galaxy S26 Edge launch.

As reported by the Korean publication NewsPim and separately in a follow-up report on SamMobile, low sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge led to Samsung dropping plans to launch a new slim phone alongside next year’s Galaxy S26 range.

The wording of SamMobile‘s reports suggests that the Edge phone isn’t entirely dead in the water. Like Apple did with the iPhone Air this year, Samsung reportedly considered launching a new thin phone to replace its long-running ‘Plus’ model. However, the latest reporting indicates that next year’s flagship lineup will consist of the conventional S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra approach of years gone by.

Samsung originally launched the Galaxy S25 Edge in May this year, some months after the core S25 range. Compared to other flagship phones, it was considerably lighter and thinner, more easily fitting into pockets. Even with a smaller-than-standard 3,900mAh battery capacity, the S25 Edge got through a full day of use, which was a concern ahead of release.

However, it started at a steep $1,849 for the base 256GB storage configuration in Australia. Despite a premium price tag, the S25 Edge sacrificed some high-end features, like a telephoto camera, commonly found on similarly priced phones. And as much as the slimmer design helped it fit into bags and pockets, the tall 6.7-inch screen wasn’t any easier to navigate without shimmying your hand up and down the side.

Perhaps the writing was on the wall when multiple retailers took $850 off the phone less than two months after launch. Even with the S25 Edge’s reported lack of popularity, it did little to dent Samsung’s position as the world’s top-selling phone brand, ahead of Apple and Xiaomi.
