DJI Mic 2 gets a colourful upgrade and more customisation

DJI has given its portable wireless microphones a colourful refresh with the Mic Mini 2, a slight upgrade that works seamlessly with the brand’s camera range, including the new Osmo Pocket 4.

From a functionality perspective, the DJI Mic Mini 2 doesn’t change much from the first model. Both sets of mics record 24-bit audio at a range of up to 400m. DJI’s new mics are also still tiny, weighing 11g and using magnets to clip onto clothing.

What’s different this time is the inclusion of three voice tone presets, something the original model didn’t have. Depending on your preference, or the voice of whoever’s speaking, there’s ‘Regular’ for a balanced audio tone, ‘Rich’ for a deeper and bassier sound, and ‘Bright’ that focuses on clarity and higher frequencies.

DJI also now sells a smaller mobile charging case alongside an upgraded version of the larger case. This smaller version of the case is designed to fit one transmitter, one receiver, and various mobile accessories for on-the-go shoots.

Then there’s the aesthetics. The DJI Mic Mini 2 lets you swap out different-coloured magnetic covers to either blend in with outfits or to stand out as a bold fashion statement. So, if the standard black and white covers don’t do it for you, you could choose anything between green and red instead. There are also some snazzy multi-toned covers designed by illustrator Victo Ngai available as an optional add-on accessory pack.

There’s still no internal recording, which is handy to use as a backup if there are any issues with the original recording. However, DJI teased the Mic Mini 2S, which will have internal recording, as a future launch in the coming months.

Available now via DJI’s online store, a single DJI Mic Mini 2 transmitter, a receiver, and a mobile charging case cost $89 in Australia. The combo that includes two transmitters and the larger charging case costs $149.
