Robots doing your laundry? The future is closer than you think

Robot appliances can do all sorts of things around the house, but they haven’t mastered doing our laundry. Not yet, at least. Ecovacs recently showed off a concept robot that picks up your dirty clothes, puts them in the washing machine, and sets it all going for you.

It was part of a recent tour of Ecovacs’ headquarters in China attended by Australian media, where the company showed a behind-the-scenes glimpse at its in-development robot technologies.

One of the demos showed “Ba Jie”, an upright robot that acts as a laundry butler of sorts. It wheels around rooms, using an extendable arm to pick up clothes strewn around the home, and then automatically starts the washing machine once it’s all loaded.

Ba Jie is still in a concept phase at the moment, but it’s a cool idea that could take care of one more household chore.
