New Shokz open-ear headphones last longer and sound better

Designed to keep you aware of your surroundings while exercising, the new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 open-ear headphones now come with USB-C charging and improved bone conduction technology.

And, based on our review of the new headphones, they’re very good. Now with the brand’s 10th-generation bone conduction technology, the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 also use a technology it calls “DualPitch”. This reportedly fuses bone conduction and air conduction techniques to produce a clear mix of high, mid, and low-frequency audio.

Instead of squeezing into your ear canals, bone conduction headphones transmit vibrations by sitting on top of your ears. This open-ear design blocks out less external noise, which is why cyclists and runners favour the technology. Particularly if you’re exercising in heavily populated areas, it keeps you aware of nearby traffic and pedestrians.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 review: The best of both worlds

Other than the welcome transition to USB-C charging, the OpenRun Pro 2 also come with a bigger battery, now lasting up to 12 hours on a single charge. According to Shokz, the upgraded model also produces less clamping pressure to help improve comfort.

Sporting an IP55 water-resistant rating, the headphones are fine for general sweaty exercise. Swimming, on the other hand, is another matter. A separate model, the OpenSwim Pro, that comes with an IP68 waterproof rating if you want something for aquatics.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 release date and price in Australia

Launching here in Australia on 5 September, the upgraded OpenRun Pro model costs $319. Stockists include the Shokz website, Amazon, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and 99 Bikes.

In addition to a standard black finish, the headphones also come in a sporty orange colour. The latest release adds to the budget-conscious Shokz OpenFit Air model launched earlier in the year alongside the OpenSwim Pro.

Shokz regularly features among the best headphones, especially for exercise, and it looks like the OpenRun Pro 2 continues the brand’s strong track record.
