Hubbl issues $25 credit after outage brought down devices

After a widespread outage that left Hubbl customers unable to use their devices, the streaming company has confirmed compensation for those impacted.

For the better part of Friday last week, Hubbl TVs and streaming boxes were affected by an outage. It left users unable to power on devices, preventing access to subscribed streaming apps.

Hubbl rolled out a fix, which automatically applied to some devices but not all, due to a staggered rollout. For devices not automatically fixed, the streaming company directed users to follow the hardware manual recovery process.

As compensation, Hubbl issued $25 in credit to customers’ accounts, the same value as a Kayo One subscription. In an email to customers, Hubbl apologised “for the frustration [the outage] may have caused”, and explained the credit redemption process. It should be visible in your account’s gift card balance, which will automatically be used towards your next billing cycle.

Even if you aren’t currently subscribed to any services through Hubbl, the credit will sit in your account for 12 months. As long as you use it before the expiry, you can apply the credit towards any future subscription or pay-per-view event. This includes subscriptions to apps like Binge, Netflix, or Disney+.

The outage was unfortunate timing for Hubbl, taking place before a weekend of AFL and NRL finals. Not only did the outage impact Australians, but it also saw Sky Glass users overseas affected too.

Hubbl hasn’t confirmed specifically what caused the outage. Based on the fact it impacted international users, it was likely caused by an error while pushing the latest software update.

Billed as a competitor to the likes of Fetch TV, Apple TV, or Amazon’s Fire TV, Foxtel launched Hubbl earlier this year to stiff competition. It consolidates subscriptions into a single billing platform, including the ability to bundle select services for a discount. However, this discount currently only applies to Foxtel’s streaming apps and Netflix.

We’ll update you when we learn more.
