Motorola has just launched the Moto G55 5G alongside the ultra-tough Moto G75 5G in Australia, the latter coming with a set of Moto Buds in the box.
For the longest time, Motorola’s G50 series has continually provided some of the best value in affordable phones. The G55’s predecessor, the Moto G54 5G, is a sensational sub-$300 handset, sporting a sharp display and affordable 5G connectivity.
What’s new with the Moto G55?
On paper, the Moto G55 looks fairly similar; it has a 6.5-inch 2400 x 1080 LCD screen, 128GB of built-in storage, and a 50MP main rear camera. Interestingly, it looks like it’s stepped the RAM down to 4GB, albeit expandable up to 8GB using available storage.
This year’s changes start with the more recent MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chipset, adding a slightly faster 2.5GHz clock speed. The phone’s screen also uses the more durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 material.
While Motorola’s new handset has the same 5,000mAh battery capacity, the Moto G55 supports faster 30W wired charging. eSIM compatibility and a 3.5mm headphone jack also carry over from last year’s model.
Arguably the biggest part of the equation, the Moto G55 retains the competitive $299 price point of its predecessor. It’s available in three colours: Forest Grey, Smokey Green, and Twilight Purple.
Moto G75 gets tough
At the fancier end of the scale is what Motorola has dubbed the “Moto G75 5G Moto Buds Edition”. As the name helpfully describes, it includes both a phone and a pair of wireless earbuds, all for $499.
Advertised as a tough handset built to last, the Moto G75 uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is more resistant to drops, bumps and scrapes. Sitting at 6.8 inches, it has a big 2388 × 1080 display, albeit using LCD technology compared to the G85’s pOLED screen. It also has an IP68 rating, meaning the phone can survive both dust exposure and being dropped in water.
On the inside, the Moto G75 wields a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. It also supports 30W wired charging in addition to 15W wireless charging, a benefit not many of its price competitors can claim. Wi-Fi 6E is a nice inclusion at this price, providing decent wireless speeds.
As for phone photography, the Moto G75 has a 50MP main rear camera, with the main difference being the choice of sensor. It uses a Sony LYTIA 600 sensor, which is said to yield better results than cheaper technologies.
In Australia, the Moto G55 is out now at major retailers, while the Moto G75 with the Moto Buds arrives on 14 November 2024. Your choice of Moto G75 colours includes Succulent Green, Charcoal Grey, and Aqua Blue.
