Get set for 19 February (or 20 February in Australia); that’s when Apple is set to reveal its latest device, which is widely tipped to be the more affordable Gen 4 iPhone SE handset.
Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a seven-second teaser video on X last week, preparing tech enthusiasts to “get ready to meet the newest member of the family.” All the video showed was a metallic animation of the Apple logo, accompanied by Cook’s mention of 19 February.
An official reveal of Apple’s cheapest iPhone was expected as early as last week. Instead, Cook dropped the teaser on social media while Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman claimed that product briefings were happening soon.
Apple hasn’t released a new iPhone SE since 2022, with the new model expected to make some big changes. Based on industry speculation, the updated phone won’t include a physical home button, it will move to USB-C connectivity, and it will also support Apple Intelligence AI features.
There’s even some speculation that the Gen 4 iPhone SE will undergo a brand refresh. Cook’s “newest member” phrasing implies more than an iterative product launch. There was no mention of iPhone or any other type of Apple device for that matter.
With plenty of rumours floating around, like the slimline iPhone ‘Air’ said to join the iPhone 17 range, there’s plenty of interest in Apple’s upcoming device. Further reporting suggests the alleged iPhone SE refresh will look like the iPhone 14 model, replete with the same A18 chip used in the iPhone 16.
Apple’s current most affordable phone, the 2022 iPhone SE is still on sale here in Australia. The base 64GB storage model costs $719, while the cheapest iPhone 16 costs $1,399. All eyes will be on Apple’s announcement later this week. Especially how much it costs.
