Pokémon Champions now has a 2026 launch window, as confirmed in the Pokémon Presents video aired overnight. Based on the new footage shown, it looks like it brings back the battling action of Pokémon Stadium with a focus on getting stuck into stats.
Like the Stadium games of the Nintendo 64 era, Pokémon Champions lets you recruit the eponymous critters on a trial basis to see if they vibe with your strategy. Battling nets you “Victory Points”, which are used to permanently add Pokémon to your roster. Or, if you’re a Pokémon trainer from way back, you can also import your pals from other games via the Pokémon Home app.
But it’s the focus on stat optimisation and training that sets Pokémon Champions apart from many other entries in the long-running series. Victory Points accumulated through battles can also be spent on tweaking your Pokémon’s stat points, moves, and even their nature.
It’s an extremely granular, and surprisingly open, approach to team composition that I imagine competitive players will go nuts over. To train Pokémon in such a specific way in many of the previous games required the convoluted and time-consuming process of optimising additional stats called “effort values” and “individual values“.

Without getting too stuck in the weeds, Pokémon Champions appears to reduce the busywork required to build a team ready for competitive play. I reckon that’s pretty neat for time-poor trainers.
While there’s no specific release date yet, Pokémon Champions is scheduled to launch in 2026 on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
