When I first saw a picture of the new HoverAir Aqua drone, I thought a pair of bright orange thongs was suspended in midair. Nope, it was a waterproof drone instead.
Tricked by its rubberised appearance and rounded shape, I wondered why the model depicted in a promotional photo had flung beach footwear into the air. In reality, the HoverAir Aqua is a mini drone designed specifically to be dunked in water.
It’s a small sub-250g device equipped with a camera capable of recording 4K footage at 100fps. As seen in some early footage from the brand, the Aqua follows you while surfboarding, canoeing, or jetskiing, without causing fear of water damage.
HoverAir hasn’t announced pricing for the Aqua yet. Its drones lean towards the pricey side, with the X1 ProMax costing upwards of $1,000 in Australia, while the base model runs closer to $600. We’ll just have to wait and see when HoverAir makes things official.
