Want to watch 4K Netflix? Thanks to the latest price increase, the Premium Netflix plan now costs nearly $30 a month for Australians.
As spotted by the folks over at WhistleOut, Netflix has raised its prices again, following the previous increase in May 2024. A Premium subscription, which supports 4K and HDR streaming, now costs $28.99 per month in Australia. Before the change, Netflix’s 4K option cost subscribers a monthly $25.99.
All three Netflix plans available in Australia are at least $2 more expensive, costing up to $36 more per year. Based on the global streamer’s recent financial results, pricier plans and cracking down on account sharing are making more money than ever. Not even frustration at Netflix’s impact on fragmenting TV access has slowed it down.
Current Netflix price in Australia
Netflix’s cheapest plan, Standard with ads, now costs $9.99 per month, up from $7.99. Meanwhile, the cheapest ad-free plan, Standard, has crossed the $20 threshold, now priced at $20.99 every month, an increase from $18.99.
Netflix officially shut down its Basic plan in February, which, at $12.99 per month, was the previous cheapest option without ads. However, Basic hadn’t been available for a year before its closure, only giving existing subscribers a grace period before Netflix moved them on to the Standard with ads tier.

Movie and TV show lovers haven’t been the only ones impacted by price hikes this year. A monthly subscription to Kayo Sports jumped up to $40 for the 4K Premium plan in February, followed by its Standard plan hitting $30 in May. Both changes were increases of $5 each per month.
Price increases may be a common practice by streaming companies, but it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.
