Need to replace your Samsung phone? Check these ready-made replacements

Potentially tens of thousands of Australians are on the lookout for replacement phones, after Telstra identified multiple older Samsung handsets with triple zero connection issues. In most cases, a simple software update will resolve the problem. However, some of the impacted phones need replacing entirely; otherwise, you’ll be left without network access.

Upgrading your phone doesn’t have to mean getting the latest and greatest, though. There are a lot of reputable refurbished phone sellers, including Boost Mobile’s online store. It’s a good way to get relatively recent tech for a lot cheaper than brand-new.

That being said, if you want a new phone, there are some good-quality and affordable options out there. Many rate a mention on our best phones list. So, if you’re one of the people who needs to replace an older Samsung handset, take a look at these phones, starting from the cheapest and working upwards.

Moto G15: $229

The Moto G15 is one of our favourite entry-level phones. It has a nice and crisp 1080p 6.7-inch screen and a long-lasting 5,200mAh battery.

It’s rare to find many phones around the $200 mark with a 1080p screen. A lot of budget handsets stick to a 720p display, which isn’t as clear, especially for reading text. 1080p gives you more clarity, so text and images will look nice and sharp.

Nubia Focus 2 5G: $249

While the Nubia Focus 2 5G may only have a 720p display, it makes up for it with affordable 5G access and a decent 108MP camera. Megapixels aren’t everything, but you won’t see many budget phones equipped with much more than 50MP. Here, you’ve got more flexibility to crop images after taking them without too much distortion.

CMF Phone 2 Pro: $449

Aside from its striking design, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is one heck of an affordable phone. A great screen and good battery life are nice, sure, but the addition of a 2x telephoto lens is really nice.

It’s not quite as weather-resistant as the Moto G86, with an IP54 rating, but the CMF Phone 2 Pro gets three years of OS updates and six years of security updates, which is very good from a sub-$500 phone.

Moto G86 Power 5G: $499

The Moto G86 Power 5G has one of the longest-lasting phone batteries we’ve ever tested. Its huge 6720mAh battery capacity is conducive to multi-day use, so you won’t need to worry about frequent charging.

It’s a tough phone, too. Rated at IP69, the Moto G86 Power withstands dust and water much better than a lot of phones at this price. Its vibrant 1220p AMOLED screen and Sony camera technology round out what is a great-value phone.

The main drawback is that this Moto only gets one year of operating system updates. At least it gets three years of security updates, but we’d like to see better long-term OS support.

Samsung Galaxy A56: $699

If you want to replace an older Samsung Galaxy A-series phone and want something familiar, the Galaxy A56 is a decent choice. You get competitive overall performance for a mid-range phone, including a good battery, display, and camera system.

Best of all, Samsung promises six years of OS and security updates, guaranteeing long-term support for the life of the phone.

These are just a few phones that are worth looking at to replace your older handset. For more, including our recommendations for premium phones, check out our current best phones list.
