Canon recently launched not one, but two cameras, with the EOS R5 Mark II built to be a versatile photography and videography shooter for folks serious about image quality.
Accompanying the top-end EOS R1, the $6,699 EOS R5 Mark II also comes with a more responsive auto-focus system. In other words, you should have less hassle pulling focus on the subject you actually want to capture.
Capable of snapping up to 30 photos in a second, Canon’s versatile camera also supports a “pre-continuous shooting mode”, taking 15 frames before pressing the shutter. So, if you’re slightly slow on the draw, there’s still hope of securing the shot.
Its sensor registers at 45 megapixels, which the camera can internally upscale to as much as 179 megapixels. While megapixels aren’t everything, you could feasibly print your photos to a pretty decent size before noticing any loss of quality.
On the video front, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II can shoot in a crispy 8K resolution at 60fps. Alternatively, you can boost that frame rate to 120 when shooting in native 4K.
Perhaps an underrated improvement comes in the form of a viewfinder twice as bright as the original EOS R5. Anything that makes it easier to compose a shot, even in bright sunlight, is a win in my books.
Canon EOS R5 Mark II release date
Out this month, the EOS R5 Mark II attracts a $6,699 price tag for the standalone body, but that’s not the only option. There’s also a bundle including an RF 24-105mm lens for $8,549 if you want some glass to go with your new camera.
Wondering what the main differences between the new R5 and the R1 are? Other than the price (the EOS R1 sets you back $10,999 for the camera alone), the R1 supports a higher continuous shooting rate (40fps), built-in Ethernet connectivity, and the more precise Cross AF technology.
