Combining floodlight security camera technology with AI technology, the new Reolink Floodlight Elite WiFi aims to make searching for footage easier.
Most smart home security systems send notifications when something happens, but sorting through a bunch of notifications to find a specific bit of footage might prove trickier. Sometimes, an event captured on camera might slip through the cracks entirely.
Reolink’s solution is to let AI do the heavy lifting. Instead of sorting through recordings manually, the Floodlight Elite WiFi camera lets you search for specific phrases to find clips of video.
For example, searching for someone in specific clothing, or a certain colour of car, brings up results that best match your query. It uses Reolink’s “ReoNeura” AI technology, working locally in a beta form without any subscription or cloud connectivity.
Other smart security brands have launched similar features, like Ring’s Smart Video Search. However, Ring’s take on the technology requires a Ring Home Premium subscription, which costs $29.95 a month.
Not forgetting the hardware attached to the AI functionality, the Reolink Floodlight Elite WiFi takes the form of a dual-lens 4K camera. Because of its two-lens design, it has a wide 180-degree field of view, while the namesake floodlight reaches 3,000 lumens of brightness — brighter than the Arlo Wired Floodlight Camera’s 2,000 lumens.
Reolink’s floodlight comes with a few different settings to toy with, too. “Tailor Your Lighting” lets you set brightness and timing manually, while “Dusk-to-Dawn” automates operation based on ambient lighting. There’s also a “Motion-Triggered” setting that activates the camera’s floodlights and siren when it detects motion from people, cars, and animals.
It does require a hard-wired connection for power, though, which is the main thing to consider before installing it at home.
In Australia, the Reolink Floodlight Elite WiFi is out now and costs $299 from Reolink’s website and Amazon.
